Carnelius D. Gilder

Carnelius D. Gilder, of Pineland, has been selected by the American Educational Research Association (AERA) to serve as leadership on the Graduate Student Council. This position term comes after Gilder attended this year's conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada as a second year Jackson Scholar from Sam Houston State University. Carnelius was recommended to pursue the position in preparation of the 2020 AERA conference stated to be held in San Francisco, California. Gilder will serve as the Connect Series Co-Chairman for the Division A Council. From the association: Gilder's demonstrated leadership and interest in increasing the voice of graduate students in Division A makes him an excellent candidate to assume the very important task of serving the GSC. A little background: Carnelius is in the second year of the Sam Houston State University's Educational Leadership Doctoral Program and he currently is an Administrator at West Sabine ISD. Last fall, Carnelius was selected to represent Sam Houston State at the University Council of Educational Administration (UCEA) conference as a Barbara Jackson Scholar. This honor which includes mentorship, support and professional development serves to further enrich the graduate students in doctoral programs.  Two key activities for this group include attending and participating in both the UCEA & AERA conferences. This year, Carnelius will present two studies at the UCEA conference in New Orleans and prayerfully, his submission will be accepted for a group of colleagues to present together in San Francisco at AERA. SHSU's doctoral program has given Gilder the opportunity to work with scholars all over the world and participate in activities across the the country. This is his last semester of classes, and he will charge full steam ahead in completing his dissertation.
