Leesville man

Sheriff Sam Craft of the Vernon Parish Sheriff's Office announces the August 11, 2019 arrest of Andrez Shamad Jones, age 25, of Fort Polk.

At approximately 1:34 a.m., Sunday, August 11th, VPSO received notification of shots fired at a club located in the area of Billy Goat Hill.

The caller indicated that there was a victim suffering from a gunshot wound within the establishment and that at the time of the call the whereabouts and identity of the shooter was unknown.

VPSO Deputies, Leesville Police Officers, and New Llano Police Officers responded to the establishment and immediately secured the scene.

Upon arrival Deputies observed a male victim suffering from a gun shot wound to the calf of his leg.  Deputies also learned that two other victims had left the establishment enroute to Fort Polk to seek medical treatment for gun shot wounds.

VPSO Detectives made contact with Fort Polk MPI (Military Police Investigators) in reference to the victims traveling to Bayne Jones Military Hospital. It was later determined that both of these victims suffered gun shot wounds to their ankles.

The male victim at the scene was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for medical treatment.

Detectives and MPI Investigators immediately began conducting witness and victim interviews.

During the course of these interviews Andrez Shamad Jones was identified as the shooter.

Witnesses indicate that a disturbance began inside the bar earlier in the evening and eventually spilled out into the bar parking lot.

Witnesses indicated that Jones was involved in the disturbance and escalated the situation by going to a vehicle and obtaining a firearm.

Witnesses indicated that attempts were made to restrain Jones but Jones immediately began to recklessly fire the handgun towards the crowd causing the large group of people to hysterically flee in an attempt to get away from Jones.

Detectives observed numerous shoes lying in the parking lot area as well as other items scattered about from the fleeing crowd.

It is believed that Jones fired no less that 6 rounds into the crowd.

Through further investigation a 9 mm firearm was taken into evidence.

Andrez Shamad Jones was arrested and charged with three counts of Aggravated Second Degree Battery with a Firearm and one count of Illegal Discharge of a Firearm.  Bond has not been set and Jones remains in the VPSO jail.

Sheriff Craft would like to thank all of the responding law enforcement agencies as well as MPI for their diligence and immediate response to this incident.
