The cause of an oil rig explosion and fire that injured three people has not been determined. According to a report by KJAS.com, emergency personnel were called to the location at shortly after 11 a.m. this morning. The three  injured were flown by medical helicopter to a Beaumont hospital.

According to Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman the accident occurred as workers were using a temporary derrick and truck commonly known as a "work over rig" to perform maintenance at the site. The well site is located off of County Road 607, east of Highway 96. The location is just north of "Southwestern Ranch" which is a large are of cleared land between Kirbyville and Buna.

According to the report, sign on the gate leading to the well indicated the well was being operated by Jeffcoat Production Company.

Firefighers from Buna, Kirbyville, and Trout Creek arrived and extinguished the fire quickly.

 The condition of the injured men is not known at this time.
