Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman

A lady came by the office to report that her purse had been stolen from her vehicle and I thought it would be a good time to offer a few suggestions to think about while you are out and about doing your Christmas shopping:

  • Don’t shop alone
  • Park in lighted areas, near cameras
  •  Lock your vehicle
  • Put gifts out of sight
  • Protect credit cards (copy front & back, in case they’re stolen)
  • Don’t leave your purse in a shopping cart,  keep it on you

Be aware of your surroundings, if something doesn’t “feel” right, trust your gut, listen to it.

This time of year, we may be feeling more generous than usual, but don’t let feelings or haste allow you to be scammed.  Check out charities or folks soliciting your donations and be very informed about the people you are giving your money to.

An important question, is this: Have you been naughty or nice, or just hoping to be forgiven?

The price of gas continues to rise and a “fill-up” can make your mouth drop.  Also, for you men out there wondering where your wife is spending all your money, go with her to the grocery store!

We have 116 in jail today. We are free of Covid at this time.

Stay safe, celebrate family and enjoy the outdoors before it gets too cold!
