Sabine County Historical Commission President Weldon McDaniel spoke with the Parks and Wildlife film crew about the history of the El Camino Real Los de Tejas in an interview Tuesday, May 2, 2017. "This is actually the oldest marked trail in the United States. It was designated by the King's Council in Spain," he said. In 1691 the trail was officially designated, but McDaniel says there is plenty of evidence the trail was traveled by earlier explorers and Native Americans long before the 1600th Century. If you've make your way down Highway 21, you have also been on the historic path south into Texas.
