The City of Hemphill
Is taking applications for the following position:
Utility and Parks Laborer/Meter Reader
❖ Please note that this is one position which handles multiple duties.
❖ Reads Water, Electric, and Gas Meters and records a reading of consumption via a handheld entry device on a monthly basis and as needed.
❖ Maintains City Parks and Streets.
❖ Mows and Trims City Parks, Facilities, Cemetery and Right-Of-Ways.
❖ Works on City Utility Water, Sewer, Gas Lines as directed by supervisor.
❖ Assists with Animal Control when needed.
❖ The successful applicant will most likely begin employment between August 1-September 15, 2019.
❖ A motivated employee has the ability to move up in the organization with further training and experience.
❖ $10.00/hr. to $11.50/hr.—Dependent on Qualifications.
❖ Medical/Dental/Vision Insurance paid at 100% for employee and 50% for Dependents.
❖ Retirement/Pension Plan-2 to 1 match.
❖ Sick, Vacation, Birthday, & Holiday Leave.
❖ Incentive Pay.
REQUIREMENTS: The successful applicant must meet the following:
❖ Must be willing to work in all kinds of weather, inside and outside.
❖ Must be able to lift up to 65 lbs.
❖ Must be able to operate landscaping tools such as riding lawn mower and weed eater and others as needed.
❖ Must work well with animals and have no fear of animals.
❖ Must be able to follow directions closely, to multitask and to learn new tasks easily.
❖ Must be self-motivated and recognize tasks that need to be completed without direction.
❖ Must be willing to work overtime when required.
❖ Must possess valid Texas drivers’ license.
❖ Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
❖ Must submit to pre-employment physical and random drug screens.
SKILLS/EDUCATION PREFERRED: Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following:
❖ Prior experience as a meter reader.
❖ Prior experience using a handheld meter reading device.
❖ Prior experience in animal control or parks maintenance.
❖ Prior employment experience with a municipal or county government or other utility provider in a related field.
❖ Prior water or sewer training or certifications.
